Scientists from Max-Planck-Institute and University of Goettingen use MST to proof the importance of Ca2+ for the SNARE-mediated fusion of liposomes in rapid neurotransmitter release. Experiments in this work that was recently published in Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, comprise MST measurements of ion binding to proteins and interactions of liposomes containing SNARE proteins: Synaptotagmin-1 may be a distance regulator acting upstream of SNARE nucleation
